The Beverly Unitarian Church congregation has been an integral part of the work at the Illinois UU Prison Ministry. Individuals from the congregation have participated directly with those returning to our communities in Solidarity Circles and by visiting those who are locked up.
Solidarity Circles are a space where committed people engage in a community of commitment with someone returning from prison. The concept is born out of experience and research affirming that individuals know best what they need and can benefit from several communities of support while attaining their full freedom.
Solidarity Circles are formed in congregations where the affirming relationships for many different types of people can be found. UUPMI has helped Beverly Unitarian become equipped to do this work through education and ongoing support of circle members.
