The Foundational Unitarians                                         Rev. Allen Harden

We are a young faith. The American Unitarian Association, progenitor of today’s Unitarian Universalist Association, was formed in 1825. Before then, our churches and thinkers were usually found among the reformists and rebels associated with the Congregational churches in New England. I will look back at what was truly revolutionary in the thoughts of William Ellery Channing, Theodore Parker, Ralph Waldo Emerson and other luminaries of early liberal religion.

7:00 pm: CONCERT LE TRAVAILLANT BACKYARD CAJUN TRIO

January 10, 2026

Le Travaillant plays Cajun, Creole, and zydeco music, the dance music of French-speaking Louisiana. Although the band is based hundreds of miles from Cajun country in Chicago, its mission is to "Bring the Bayou Down By You."

The phrase "Le Travaillant" is Cajun French for "the working man," and its members have a great time living up to that name, playing long sets of upbeat two-steps and waltzes that keep feet energetically moving.

The band has performed at various Chicago area fests, museums Cajun restaurants, legendary music venues, public libraries, park districts, Kalamazoo College, and private engagements for a wide variety of events held by private and corporate clients that include the Lake Charles, Louisiana tourism board.

Nonviolence                                                                     Rev. Allen Harden

This weekend our nation honors the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. King, the transcendent force in the American Civil Rights movement, is particularly well known for his commitment to the practice of nonviolence in protest. Let us think about nonviolence – as a response to violence, as a conflict strategy, and as a way of thinking. Should it work for us today?
