BUC Spotlight

African American Genealogy - Did you know..?

The February 13th Women of the Castle Meeting was a memorable celebration of Black History Month. Twenty-five very interested attendees (fifteen visitors!) listened intently as Laurann Bibbs, a member of the African American Genealogy Historical Society of Chicago, shared her journey of becoming a genealogist.

Kickstarting the Year of the Snake

The intergenerational service on February 10th was a lively celebration of Chinese New Year. Twenty-three children participated in what has become one of Beverly Unitarian's favorite services. The adults were charmed by the Ribbon Dancers, blessed by Baci wishes, relaxed by the meditation guided by Deepak Chopra and thrilled by the energy of the drummers and the very long, red dragon. Religious Education director, Amanda Price, commented, "It is wonderful to see how comfortable our children are. This really is their church home and a place where they want to be."

Sunday, January 27th at 10:30

Our Reverend Nan Hobart's sermon title is...
Hard-Core Spirituality
"Is “spirituality” a component of rational liberal religion? Is it only
expressed individually or can it be shared by liberal churches? Oh,
and what IS spirituality anyway?"

She certainly knows how to entice us out of our warm, winter nests!

Kids 5 to 12 years old

Children aged five through twelve, who are fully vaccinated, are invited to attend the first part of the church service to hear "the story for all ages."  They will then leave to attend their UU Education classes, where everyone who is with them is fully vaccinated.
