Topic “Church Life”

Bearing Witness

The decision of the St. Louis grand jury is expected tonight. Since before the 1964 Selma march, UU's have always stood against racism and for justice. In that tradition, here are two venues where we can express whatever sadness, disappointment or anger we might feel after the grand jury decision. On the day of the grand jury announcement there will be two gatherings:

1) State and Jackson, at 5 pm, organized by Stop Mass Incarceration.

2) 3510 S Michigan (CPD headquarters) at 6:30 pm, organized by the NIA project and the Chicago Light Brigade.

3) There will be an interfaith vigil this evening at 7pm, at First Unitarian Church in Hyde Park, 57th St & Woodlawn.

This is an important turn of events for our community and our brothers and sisters who suffer from ongoing police brutality, black, Hispanic, and white. It's an opportunity to to proclaim that Black Lives Matter.

Christmas Trees Arrive November 20

The Annual Men of the Castle Christmas Tree event starts this Sunday, Nov 20, with the arrival of trees. We will unload trees and help set them up in the parking lot right after church service. It's a lot of fun plus we get a  FREE LUNCH afterward.

Check your calendar and be sure to sign up for tree selling between Nov 26 and Dec 23. We counton each other to make this fundraiser a success.

BUC Sanctuary is Now Air Conditioned

As of July 9 the church sanctuary became air conditioned through the efforts of the Worship Committee and the Green Sanctuary Group. Three portable A/C units were installed, two of which were donated by Pete and Renee Jirousek. The third was bought with contributions from Green Sanctuary and members of the congregation.

A big thanks go out to new member, Brian Otto, who built a baffler for one of the windows and a venting hose for one of the donated A/C units. Permanent bafflers for the windows are in the works. In the meantime, we will all enjoy more comfortable services during the dog days of July and August.
