We might offend, but may we not be offensive. Rev. Allen Hard Many “gifts” come to us from messengers who themselves present challenges and violation of our sense of what is right and good. For example, Thomas Jefferson brought words of liberation to our nation, but not to his own slaves; and many influencers were caught up in #metoo transgressions. And some messages themselves feel problematic, regardless of origin. Yet we pride ourselves on dealing with material that can be “edgy”. We, who present ourselves as open and welcoming and tolerant, still do maintain boundaries around the content we put forward in our church. How should we decide when and why to curate (censor, disclaim, or cancel) the messages we bring forth?
We'll be meeting in person AND streaming live on Zoom.
