Sermon: "Hanukkah and Religious Freedom"
The Biblical (at least in Catholic and Orthodox Bibles)book of Maccabees tells of a struggle between Jewish religious leaders and Greek invaders. This Hanukkah story has been celebrated by Jews for thousands of years focusing on the miracle of the oil and as a celebration of the preservation of the Jewish religion. I will tell the story but then discuss challenging questions of religious freedom: in
nations, between and inside cultural groups, and in families.
