Religious Education For Children

The children’s program at Beverly Unitarian Church teaches preschool through eighth graders about what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist, including respect for the worth and dignity of all people and the interdependant web of life.  The morning begins at 10:30 in the church sanctuary where children attend the beginning of the worship service with their families.  Typically, a Time for All Ages story is told before the congregation sings a round of Go Now in Peace as the children leave for their classes in the school building adjacent to the church sanctuary.  Parents are asked to pick up their children at 11:45.

  • Our nursery is available for infants, toddlers and preschoolers from 10:20 until 11:45.  Our sitter, Ms. Joanne Marsh, is a retired school teacher who supervises play time.  We soon will add a mini-class of 15 minutes for pre-schoolers, followed by free play.
  • June 20 is the End-Of-The-Year Inter-generational Service and Teacher Recognition. Thanks again to all of our teachers. We will also hold Gems of Goodness Party in June to celebrate the good deeds of all of our students. Please expect an announcement with details.
  • The Religious Education Committee will hold its quarterly meeting in mid-June. Please contact Char Lichtenfeld for information at Charlichtenfeld@aol.com. At this meeting, the committee will summarize the past year, review activities for the summer, and begin making plans for fall.
  • The RE Committee will have a parents’ meeting to get input on how the past year went and to talk about next year’s program. The date has yet to be decided so look for an email from Amanda Price with information.
  • Summer UU Camp During the summer, we have “fun” with the kids as we work on projects on Sunday mornings. Traditional church school with moral tales and lessons is exchanged for Summer UU Camp. It is a delightful way to meet the kids. UU camp begins in late June and continues to the beginning of September.

During Summer UU Camp we harvest the talents of others. There is no curriculum. Volunteers provide projects such as dipping pretzels, pickling eggs, cooking, science, knitting, painting, jokes, sleight of hand, relays, board games, drumming, calligraphy or making or doing just about anything. The RE Committee will help in creating a fun event for the kids and can team you up with someone who has the same or a similar idea.

If you have a talent to share, contact Char Lichtenfeld at CharLichtenfeld@aol.com. Dates are being “grabbed” as you read this. Don’t hesitate.

Please note that there will be no Summer UU Camp on Sunday, July 4.
