Religious Education For Adults

BUDDHIST MEDITATION GROUP Rev. Marcia Curtis leads a weekly Buddhist Meditation Group on Sundays from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. We'll be meeting in the Sanctuary. Everyone is welcome! Each session will include a guided meditation, a dharma talk or practice discussion, and a time for silent meditation.
Marcia began her meditation practice in 1987, and has been teaching Buddhist mindfulness meditation for more then 10 years, in UU congregations, a prison, and a psychiatric hospital. She also teaches the 8-week course in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, and is willing to teach the course at BUC if there is sufficient interest. Please come to the weekly Sunday night meditation session if you are interested... or call Marcia at 312-431-0387.
Lay Preaching Class
What: “The Shared Pulpit” is an 8-session workshop to help lay people gain experience writing and preaching a full-length sermon for their congregation. Participants learn about theory and theology of preaching, then practice writing and speaking with authenticity, gradually building toward composing quality 20-minute sermons.
The workshop is for folks here who have never led worship, and also for those who may have preached here before. Whether you are at home in front of a room, or anxious to stand up and deliver; whether you journal every day or haven’t ever written – this is for you!
When: The class will meet Wednesday evenings from 6:30-9:00 at the church on the following dates: February 14 and 28; March 7 and 14; April 4, 11, and 25; May 2. While not everyone may be able to make every session, they do build on each other, so if you know in advance you will need to miss more than two sessions, you should probably sit this one out this time.
Sign Up: We are starting very soon, but there is still some room! If you are interested, send me a note at
