Religious Education For Adults

BUDDHIST MEDITATION GROUP Rev. Marcia Curtis leads a weekly Buddhist Meditation Group on Sundays from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. We'll be meeting in the Sanctuary. Everyone is welcome! Each session will include a guided meditation, a dharma talk or practice discussion, and a time for silent meditation.

Marcia began her meditation practice in 1987, and has been teaching Buddhist mindfulness meditation for more then 10 years, in UU congregations, a prison, and a psychiatric hospital. She also teaches the 8-week course in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, and is willing to teach the course at BUC if there is sufficient interest. Please come to the weekly Sunday night meditation session if you are interested... or call Marcia at 312-431-0387.

Shared Pulpit Preaching Class

“The Shared Pulpit” is an 8 session workshop to help lay people gain experience writing and preaching a full length sermon for their congregation. Participants learn about theory and theology of preaching, practice writing and speaking with authenticity, and gradually build toward  composing quality 20 minute sermons.

Last year a circle of members here did the class, and I am thrilled you’ll get the chance to hear from them in the pulpit in the year ahead.  The workshop is for all experience levels: whether you’ve never led worship or you’ve preached here before; whether you are at home in front of a room, or anxious to stand up and deliver; whether you journal every day or haven’t ever written this is for you!

The class meets for seven sessions, from 6:00 - 9:00 pm:

January 23 and 30

February 6, 13 and 27

March 6, 13

This year, we’ll invite neighboring UU congregations to participate and a few class meetings will be up the road at First Unitarian in Hyde Park.

Sound like a workshop you’d be interested in? Let me know! Send me a note at .
