Topic “Fundraising Success”
December has been a month of one wonderful activity after another at Beverly Unitarian Church. Thank you, thank you to the "champions" of each event, to those who volunteered to do the work needed to ensure the success of a fundraiser and to everyone who attended with their smiles, goodwill and wallets. Being a small church has its advantages; members realize that everyone who is able has to pitch in and our neighbors understand that we need their support to thrive and continue our good work.
We began when the Women of the Castle transformed the sanctuary into a warm setting for BREAKFAST WITH SANTA. The steady stream of eager children and their families lasted for 4 hours and we each have our favorite memories of the event. Thank you, Char Lichtenfeld and all willing elves, for believing in Santa and serving up 250 breakfasts!
BUCs parking lot had the most beautiful trees in town thanks to Jean Hardy Robinson who `stepped up for another year as champion of the CHRISTMAS TREE SALE. 2016's polar vortex ending brought an added sparkle to tree sellers' eyes and very few trees remained homeless.
To help us with our decluttering attempts as well as our restocking joys, Pam Carlson gathered seasonal treasures and the castle foyer became SANTA'S HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE. The Boutique moved to the second floor to become part of the ANNUAL COOKIE WALK, a yummy happening after this year's CHILDREN'S HOLIDAY PAGEANT, "A New Star in Town." Our Religious Education Director, Amanda Price, and the children of BUC, make it happen every year. How we enjoyed the "awwws" and laughter that the children's performance brought. It isn't every day that we see an unlikely King Herod (Mike Wolf) and our minister (John Smith) turned into a turban headed king.
Hoping to see a fine turn out on Christmas Eve. What a way to end 2016!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, ONE AND ALL!!!
Jean Hardy Robinson, BUC's Finance Committee Chair, wishes to thank the many volunteers and tree purchasers who made the Christmas tree sale a success. "We ordered and sold 100 trees, all but seven during our two sale weekends, and the last seven during the following week. We think this new model merits a repeat in 2013. The trees were beautiful; we had fun and reached our $2,000 net fundraising goal." All thanks to Jean's refusal to let a beautiful Beverly tradition fall by the wayside. If you have ideas for next year, please join the Congregational Fundraising team or post a comment.
Childcare for our youngest is available during services.
All children are welcome!
Reverend Marcia Curtis invites you to participate in a Buddhism-based meditation in a group setting. Join us Sundays at 7:30pm in the church sanctuary. Newcomers welcome.
