Minister's Welcome

Welcome to the Beverly Unitarian Church located on the Southside of Chicago.  We are a liberal religious congregation that has played an important part on the southside of Chicago and its surrounding suburbs.  Our liberal tradition is well-defined as a continuing drive toward religious freedom and free thought, embracing a diversity of religious beliefs and practices.

We are a community held together not by beliefs or creeds but of our collective values of freedom, reason, and tolerance. We are a caring community, helping each other traverse the truths of life. We are a community of seekers of the truth, knowing there is continually more to learn in this life.  Because we understand that there is no such thing as one absolute truth, we explore many ideas, philosophies, perspectives and approaches to worship and spiritual growth.

We are a pluralistic church, dedicated to inclusivity and justice for all. Every individual has inherit worth and dignity and is worthy to receive the gifts that this life has to offer. We are a welcoming congregation, honoring the diversity of beliefs, practices and cultures and sexual orientations. Lastly, we’re an active multi-generational congregation, working together to achieve a peaceful, just and healthy environment both locally and globally.

Ultimately, we believe that we should love our neighbors as ourselves. Hence, our world would be a kingdom on Earth. Come fill your spirit in our “Castle on the Hill” together we are the beacon of hope our world so desperately needs. Come whoever you are, worshipper, wonderer or journeyer.  All are welcome and we hope you’ll join us soon!

In peace,

Rev. John S. Smith II, M.Div.
