GIRL SCOUTS AT BUC If you have ever been around the church on either the second or fourth Monday afternoon or evening, you have heard the voices, laughter and foot falls of some forty girls actively engaged in Girl Scouts. BUC hosts two Girl Scout troops: Brownies Troop 20573, with girls in the second and third grades and Juniors Troop 20583, with girls in grades four and five. Today’s Girl Scouts do more than just camping and cookies -- although they love both of those activities too! The Scouts at BUC have done several service projects, including shoe drives for Share Your Soles; and collecting old and tattered American flags for proper flag retirement. The troops have also done service work for the church, such as cleaning up around the grounds in the spring; chipping in with cookies for the Annual WOC Cookie Walk, and donating annuals to brighten up the flower boxes. Last year, both troops were the highest sellers of Girl Scout cookies in the neighborhood service unit, and donated cookies, time and money to ship cookies with hand written cards and letters to service men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan. This fall will be the fifth year that BUC has graciously sponsored Girl Scout troops. The troops, in turn, raise the profile of BUC in the community. Three of the girls in the troops are from member families of our church: Lila Jirousek is a Brownie, and Maddy Flisk and Maeve Giafagleone are in the Junior Troop. The troops are led by Nancy Caddigan, Donna Tague, Kate Bradley and Carolyn Crispo.
