UU EDUCATION This church year we will have two religious education classes for children, one on the topic of "What is Religion?", for children in grades K-2, and the other on the topic of "God Images", for children in grades 3-6. A youth group, for youth in grades 7 through 12, is expected to meet once or twice a month. A nursery will continue to be provided for infants, toddlers and other pre-school children. The fall district youth conference, called ICON, will be held at Countryside Unitarian Universalist Church the weekend of November 7 to 9, 2008. A district youth conference is a three-day retreat for youth and youth advisors from around the district to gather together as a UU community. These semiannual events are planned by a host congregation with the assistance of the District Youth Steering Committee (DYSC). Activities at the conference include workshops, worships, community-building activities, meals, social justice work, a dance and a whole lot of fun. Conferences are an opportunity for youth to gather, worship, and learn with others of their own age from around the district. This fall conference theme will explore how we Con and how do we Con together? We will explore the issues of personal experience and how these intertwine with the experience of the greater group. We will also look at the use of icons. How do we decide who we admire? The planned capacity is 200 youth plus advisors. Registrations are due by
October 29, 2008.
